What are B Corps?
ACU’s B Corp Certification
“With increasing community and consumer concern on how businesses operate in the world, ACU’s ranking confirms that it’s been doing good work in Manitoba. That holds up even by international standards of companies that don’t want to be just the best in the world, but the best for the world,” says Assiniboine Credit Union’s President and CEO Kevin Sitka.
This rapidly growing movement currently encompasses more than 3,300 B Corps across 150 industries and over 70 nations around the world. The non-profit B Lab certifies for-profit companies through rigorous standards for social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. The B Corp community works toward reduced inequality, lower levels of poverty, a healthier environment, stronger communities and local economies, and the creation of high-quality jobs with dignity and purpose.
“B Corp applicants have to score at least 80 points on a 200-point evaluation to be certified. On average a company scores about 90 points. ACU scored over 166 points, placing ACU among the highest rated corporations globally”
“The B Corp assessment is very demanding and very detailed. We’re very proud of our success so far, but we know that we can do better and one of the next goals is to see how we can improve and learn from other international leaders while being helpful to businesses here in Manitoba who want to become B Corp certified,” added Sitka.
We’re proud to join the small but growing family of Certified B Corporations in Manitoba.
