Assiniboine was awarded one of the Manitoba Start Partner of the Year Awards, recognizing their demonstrated commitment to ensuring the success of internationally educated newcomers within their organization. Awards were presented to Assiniboine and partner credit unions Cambrian, Steinbach and Westoba, at the Manitoba Start Employer Awards 2016 Luncheon on May 12, 2016.
As a participant in the Manitoba Immigrant Integration Program (IIP) since 2004, the program has been a major success for both Assiniboine and its participants.
- 45 newcomers to Canada have completed the program
- 97.7% of participants were hired after completing the program
- 84% of hires have been promoted to other positions one or more times
This program has many benefits both for the participants and for Assiniboine. Participants gain work experience in the Canadian financial sector which increases their odds of gaining long-term employment in their field.
Assiniboine benefits from having employees who possess insights into their cultural community, which helps Assiniboine better meet these communities' particular banking needs. Approximately 45 different languages are spoken by employees, which add to the experience of the newcomer employees as well as the newcomer members of the credit union. The program has also made ACU a highly desired place of employment for newcomers.
